Licensing and Training Steps to Sell LTC Products

This guide is designed to walk you through the LTC training process by answering 5 questions:

  • Do I need Initial LTC training in my resident state?
  • Do I need any Initial training for my non-resident state(s)?
  • Have I completed the JPMC product training?
  • Do I have a Health line of authority on my license?
  • Do I have an Ongoing LTC Training requirement?

Step 1 - My Resident license is in CT, DC, GA, HI, KS, KY, MS, MO, NH, NY, NC, ND, TX, or VA.
Do I need state LTC training?
My Resident license is in another state. Go to STEP 2

You don't have a resident state requirement for LTC training unless you have a non-resident license in a state other than those listed here.

Note: These states do not show up on the state drop-down menu for either Initial or CE/Refresher LTC Training because these states do not such requirements.

Example: If your resident license is in NY, and you hold a non-resident license in CT, DC, NC and VA, you have no further state training to do, because all of these states are on the "no training" list for this product.

However, if you are resident licensed in NY and hold a non-resident license in NJ, and you want to sell LTC in NJ, you need to take an 8-hour Long-term Care Policies & Partnership course for the state of New Jersey to be LTC certified for that state.

If you hold a non-resident license in a state other than CT, DC, GA, HI, KS, KY, MS, MO, NH, NY, NC, ND, TX, or VA, and intend to sell LTC in that state - Skip to STEP 3.

If you have no other non-resident licenses, Skip to STEP 6 for JPMC Internal Product Training Instructions.

Step 2 - My Resident license is in AL, AK, AZ, AR, CA, CO, DE, FL, ID, IL, IN, IA, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MT, NE, NV, NJ, NM, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WA, WV, WI, and WY. Do I need state LTC training?

YES. Your resident state requires you to complete Initial LTC Training.

Find your resident state and read LTC Training requirements

CO residents - You must complete a 8-hour Initial LTC Training online course and a 8-hour initial live classroom course. From the landing page you'll be enrolled in the online course. Please call 1-800-866-2468 to schedule the 8-hour live classroom.

I hold a non-resident license in at least one other state on this list. Do I have to do 8-hours for training for each one?

NO. Most states consider your 8-hour initial LTC Training completed in your resident state to be compliant and reciprocate with their own training. Reciprocity is when one state will accept an agent's completed training in another state. The only exceptions to this are the states of CA, MA, SD, VT, and WI.

Example: If your resident state is AL, Let's say you hold a non-resident license in MS (a no training state) and SC and FL. You decide you have customers in all of these states who might be interested in the LTC rider. According to the JPMC-LTC State Requirements Initial Training document, AL requires 8-hours of Initial training for resident producers.

    • You would sign up to complete the Long-Term Care Policies & Partnership online course for AL, as your resident state.
    • MS does not require training.
    • In FL and SC, your AL 8-hours of training satisfies your non-resident requirement in both states.

Go to STEP 3 to answer non-resident enrollment questions.

Step 3 - My Non-resident license is in: AL, AK, AZ, AR, CA, CO, DE, FL, ID, IL, IN, IA, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MT, NE, NV, NJ, NM, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WA, WV, WI, and WY. Which state LTC training do I take?

Find your resident state and read LTC Training requirements

If you hold a non-resident license in any of the states listed above and have not take 8 hours of LTC training in your resident state, you must take 8 hours of initial LTC training in one of your non-resident states to be compliant.

**Only one Initial Training course is needed in a non-resident state and will reciprocate with all others on this list! Reciprocity is when one state will accept an agent's completed training in another state.**

Non-resident licensees in:

  • California are required to complete an 8-hour CA specific training course, whether or not 8 hours of initial training was completed in another state.
  • Massachusetts are required to complete a one-time, 2-hour MA specific training course, if 8-hour initial training was completed in another state.
  • South Dakota are required to complete a 1-hour SD specific training course, if 8-hour initial training was completed in another state.
  • Vermont are required to complete a one-time, 2-hour VT specific training course, if 8-hour initial training was completed in another state.
  • Wisconsin are required to complete a 2-hour WI specific training course, if 8-hour initial training was completed in another state.

Example:If your resident license is in NY and you hold non-resident licenses in CA, NJ and SD, this is how your training would break down:

  1. NY - Requires NO LTC training.
  2. CA - Requires THEIR 8-hour LTC training course to be completed.
  3. NJ & SD - Requires 8-hour course before selling LTC in either state. Do I have to complete both?

NJ LTC training is reciprocal with SD. Take the SD 8-hour course, which will meet the NJ requirements as well. One course will satisfy both states.

With this logic, you will need to complete:

  1. CA 8-hour LTC training course & 2) SD 8-hour LTC training course.

Go to STEP 4 to gather necessary license information, then to STEP 5 to enroll.

Step 4 - What information do I need to enroll for LTC Training?

You need your license numbers for both your resident state and any non-resident state identified in Steps 2 or 3 that apply to you, as well as your National Producer Number (NPN).

If you need to look this information up, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to State Requirements on the A.D. Banker website (Click Here).
  2. Select your resident insurance state Under "Helpful Links", click "Find your license number", and follow instructions (varies by state).

Step 6 - Do I have any JP Morgan Chase INTERNAL LTC Product Training to complete?

Yes, you will be advised of Internal JPMC LTC Product training.

To complete the training use the internally published course code to assign the training to yourself via the learning portal (learning@jpmc) via the intranet learning portal.

You are required to complete both state LTC training (if required) for your resident and non-resident licenses AND internal JPMC product training before getting access to EZ Forms.

Go to STEP 7 for instructions on Health Licensing (if you do not already have a Health LOA on your license).

Step 7 - Do I Need a Health Line of Authority added to my license to sell LTC Products?

To sell long-term care (LTC) products, JPMC requires you to hold the Health LOA on your resident license.

Go to STEP 8.

Step 8 - How can I find out if my license includes a Health Line of Authority?

If you are not sure if your insurance license already includes a Health Line of Authority (meaning you completed and passed the Health portion of your state insurance licensing exam), these links will give you options to look that information up.

  • CLICK HERE for A.D. Banker State Requirements.
    • Select state.
    • Under Helpful Links click Find your license number and follow instructions (vary by state).
    • Also available under Helpful Links are the phone and email addresses of each state's insurance department, in case you prefer to call or email them directly for your LOA information. You can also download State Contact Information for numbers and email addresses.

Step 9 - How do I enroll for a Health Prelicensing course?

  • Go to www.adbanker.com/jpmc/ltc.
  • Choose Course Type - from dropdown, select Health Prelicensing.
  • Select State - pick your resident state.
  • Enter SID.

(In Illinois, this is a classroom requirement and you will be directed to select a classroom course convenient to you.)

  • Click Check Out.

NOTE: JPMC pays for the course but does not pay for printed study material or shipping charges (except IL and FL).

You are personally responsible for paying for any learning tools or printed study materials you want to add to your order.

Call A.D. Banker's customer care department for additional purchase: (800) 866-2468.

Once enrolled, you will:

  • Complete course (and certification exam in states that require it).
  • Save a pdf of your Prelicensing certificate of completion.
  • Email your Market Director's Assistant to request a state exam schedule.
  • Take and pass your state exam.
  • Provide BOTH your Prelicensing certificate of completion AND your state exam score sheet to your MD Admin.
  • The MD Admin will create a SharePoint request to insurance licensing to have your Health LOA added to your insurance license.
  • Please note: Some states may require additional background checks and or fingerprints to add the Health LOA to your existing license.

Step 10 - When do I have to complete my Ongoing LTC Training?

Ongoing Training is required to maintain LTC Certification with your carrier(s).

Download LTC State Requirements for Ongoing Training

Find your resident state first, then review your non-resident states for any additional requirements

Producers licensed in the following states must complete Ongoing LTC Training within 24 months of the last Initial or Ongoing LTC course: AK, AZ, AR, CO, FL, ID, IN, ME, MD, MA, MN, MT, NE, NV, NJ, OR, RI, SC, VT, WA, WY.

Due each CE renewal period

Many states link Ongoing LTC Training deadlines to producer license renewal periods. These states include: AL, DE, IL, IA, LA, MI, NM, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, WV, WI.

Additional Non-Resident Training

California, South Dakota, and Wisconsin are the only states that require non-resident producers to complete ONGOING state-specific training.
